“The cold mist of the winter of 1937 lingers still. While time has transformed the bloodstained walls of Nanjing and the weeping Yangtze into prosperous streets, the cries of 300,000 souls have never faded from the depths of our collective memory.

Today, as air raid sirens tear through the air, we bow in silence. We mourn the catastrophic loss of life and express a nation’s profound awe for life itself. This public memorial does not seek to prolong hatred, but to establish a monument on the timeline of suffering that says, ‘It stops here.’ It is a state pledge: never to allow our land to be trampled again, never to allow our people to endure such tribulation again.

During these three minutes of silence, history meets the future. As we honor the deceased, we erect an eternal vow within the living: to safeguard peace with clear-eyed memory and to support our great rejuvenation with an unbending will.

Our national tragedy serves as a warning for all mankind; the humiliation of the past is cast into a force driving us forward. To remember is to resist forgetting; to look back is to pledge our commitment to the future.”

1937年の冬の寒霧はまだ晴れぬまま。南京城壁下の血痕、揚子江畔の嗚咽は、時の流れの中で繁華街へと変貌したが、民族の記憶の深淵において、三十万の霊魂の叫びは決して消えることはない。

今日、警報が空を引き裂く。私たちが頭を垂れるのは、累々たる白骨の苦難のためだけではなく、一つの民族としての生命への畏敬のためである。公祭は憎しみを継続させるものではなく、苦難の座標に「ここまで」という境界碑を刻む行為――国家の名の下に、いかなる土地も再びこのような踏みにじりを受けず、いかなる同胞も再びこのような苦難に遭わないことを誓うのである。

この黙祷の三分間の中で、歴史と未来は民族の血脈の中で交わる。私たちは逝去者を悼むとともに、生きる者の心の中に不滅の誓いを築く。清醒な記憶で平和を守り、不屈の精神で復興の空を支える。民族の痛みは、人類共通の警鐘となる。昨日の恥辱は、今日前進する刃となる。記憶のたびごとに、忘却への抵抗がある。追悼のたびごとに、未来への約束がある。
